Good Juju Story Time - April 2017

Happy Spring Time Inkers!

What time is it? It’s Good Juju Story Time (cue all sorts of cute dancing animals, like this cockatoo who absolutely rocks out)! Oy vey, my inner monologue is so awkward…but I suppose there’s something charming in being a 32-year-old man with the vocabulary/sense of humor/idioms of a 90-year-old. Right? But I digress…

Having just wrapped up Women’s History Month, this blog post is dedicated to Good Juju Ink’s first Writing Party, which was a TREMENDOUS success! Hosted at Good Juju Ink HQ, we were lucky to be joined by an amazing group of young professional women. Over good food (i.e., yummy pizza) and drinks (i.e., copious amounts of wine), the night was a forum for women’s rights and empowerment. Each of us wrote letters of support and gratitude to women who dedicate their lives to fighting for a world of equal rights for all. Letters of thanks were sent to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Senator Elizabeth Warren, Senator Kamala Harris, Senator Tammy Duckworth, and many others who serve as public ambassadors for women’s rights.

In addition to writing letters, there was a continuous, informed dialogue about women’s empowerment, with topics ranging from workplace policies to healthcare law to female portrayal in the media. As the lone male representative at the event, I felt honored to listen to such a phenomenal group of women. Having been surrounded by powerful women my whole life (shout out to my wife/CEO/boss lady Juju, my awesome friend/business partner/life coach Marina, my badass sister, and my super Mama, among many others), I’m pained at the thought that for most of human existence and for many women today, being born with two X chromosomes meant/means being relegated below men. Life is undoubtedly better for EVERYONE when women are on the same playing field. So please, let’s keep fighting so that we can some day look back and say, "Wow, I can't believe that in 2016, the percentage of women CEOs in Fortune 500 companies was 4 percent!"

For those interested, we will be hosting Good Juju Writing Parties every month here in San Francisco (perhaps branching to other locations in the future?), with every month centered around a new topic (e.g., this month will be focused on the environment in honor of Earth Day). The goal is to write letters of gratitude and generate positive energy through our meetings; there’s enough negativity in the world these days, so we want to focus on the positive…the Good Juju! If you want to learn more or participate, feel free to reach out at greetings@goodjujuink.com.

Until the next Good Juju Story Time,

Ryan

P.S. Remember, we need your contributions to keep the good juju flowing!!! To share a Good Juju story of your own, ask us questions, or just say hello, please email us at greetings@goodjujuink.com. It means the world to hear from you, and every note makes a difference!
